CBA Nova Scotia’s Equity Committee established this Award to recognize legal workplaces striving to advance equity and diversity in the legal profession and/or the general community.
Eligibility
All legal workplaces in Nova Scotia with at least one CBA member in good standing are eligible. A legal workplace includes law firms, legal aid, government and non-profit legal departments and corporate in-house teams.
Criteria
Excellence in Equity and Diversity can be demonstrated in many ways. The Nominating Committee will consider examples in the following areas, taking into consideration the available resources of the Nominee:
- Employee hiring and promotion
- Workplace environment, including policies and practices that support lawyers from diverse backgrounds
- Employee equity and diversity training
- Relationships in the greater community
- Other examples of promoting equity and diversity
Nomination Procedure
Nominations must contain an explanation of how the nominee has made an outstanding contribution to advancing equity and diversity in the legal profession and/or the general community, providing examples of how the nominee has met the nomination criteria (max 2,000 characters).
Nominations must also be supported by a letter or email endorsing the nominee (provided by a person or organisation other than the nominator). Additional supporting information (e.g. copies of external recognition, policies, training, diversity initiatives, metrics, etc.) may also be provided.
Nominations must include confirmation that the nominee is aware of the nomination and will attend the award presentation.

Selection Process
The Award is administered by the Nominations Committee, a standing Committee of the Nova Scotia Branch. The Committee may determine that no Award shall be granted in any one year.
Presentation
The Award is presented annually at the AGM or other CBA-NS event.
