The success of our Sections relies on the expertise and active contributions of Section executives.

Volunteer Opportunities in Sections

Are you interested in supporting the learning and development of colleagues? Participating in advocacy and public policy initiatives? Getting to know your peers across the country?

Volunteering with CBA-NS Sections is a uniquely rewarding experience.

Branch sections are led by a Chair (or Co-Chair), Vice Chair, and Secretary (where applicable), providing many ways to get involved in leading a section.

  • Section Chair & Co-Chair (2-year term)

    Responsibilities

    • Arrange and chair topical Section meetings and activities throughout the program year.

    • Attend Council meetings and the Annual General Meeting and prepare Section Reports or other material as requested.

    • Serve as the Nova Scotia representative on the National Section’s Executive.

    • Stay informed about changes (legislative, judicial, etc.) that may impact the practice area and liaise with CBA-NS staff and Committee Chairs as needed to propose advocacy work, member communications, or other initiatives.

    • Attend any orientation or other meetings that may be arranged by the Executive Committee, Section Committee, and/or the Section Activity Coordinator when invited.

    • Such other responsibilities as may be requested by the Executive Committee, Section Committee, and/or the Section Activity Coordinator throughout the program year.

  • Section Vice-Chair (2-year term)

    Responsibilities

    • Assist the Chair in managing regular and topical Section activities throughout the program year.

    • Attend Council meetings and the Annual General Meeting in the event the Chair is unable to attend.

    • Attend any orientation or other meetings that may be arranged by the Executive Committee, Section Committee, and/or the Section Activity Coordinator when invited or if the Chair is unable to attend.

    • Such other responsibilities as may be delegated by the Chair throughout the program year.

  • Section Secretary (2-year term) (Where Applicable)

    Responsibilities

    • Assist the Chair and Vice Chair in managing regular and topical Section activities throughout the program year.

    • Assist with documentation that may be requested from time to time, such as Section Reports and attendance lists.

    • Attend any orientation or other meetings that may be arranged by the Executive Committee, Section Committee, and/or the Section Activity Coordinator when invited or if the Chair and Vice Chair are unable to attend.

    • Such other responsibilities as may be delegated by the Chair or Vice Chair throughout the program year.

You can anticipate a time commitment of two to four hours per month. Primary responsibilities include: planning and running at least four Section meetings/events per year and attending branch events such as the AGM and Council meeting(s). 

Each position is held for a two-year term (from September 1 to August 31 of each year).
